The Westerest Point and Dicks

This probably would have been better to have posted while I was still dating the girl, but I went on two adventures in somewhat relative succession with my girlfriend at the time.

The first was the Westest (that's a word) point on Honshuu, the main island.

There's not much to say about it, but here are some pictures of it. Obviously there are Southest, Eastest, and Northest points, but they were no where near me. And technically Kyuushuu and Okinawa are more West so it doesn't really matter all that much, but Honshuu is pretty big, so it's kind of cool. It's also interesting to think that Shimonoseki is the Westest point on Honshuu, not the Southest.

Anyway, pictures!

Some days or weeks later we went to Tsunoshima. A large island somewhere near where I live, but apparently nothing more than that. Despite being rather far away and out in the middle of nowhere, it seems to still be considered part of Shimonoseki city itself somehow.

There was a light house built by a man who unfortunately decided to live his life known as "Dick" despite the fact that "Rick", "Rich", and "Richard" were all options. He apparently built a lot (all?) of the region's lighthouses.

There was also a rock and a story about demons throwing them across the strait to build a bridge or something. And some cannons somewhere we didn't go see.

Oh, along the way, we stopped somewhere and found some ancient tomb or something. Also an annoying mascot. Japan and its mascots....

There was a shop before crossing the long bridge, complete with prefectural souvenirs involving One Piece. Apparently every prefecture has their own set. Would be cool to collect.

Anyway, more pictures again!

This area really reminded me of the first Pokemon movie. I couldn't get the exact shot I wanted when it reminded me, but just letting you know.

The spinning squid contraptions are easily one of my favorite parts of Japan. Apparently the Japanese don't understand why it's so funny.

Whoops, didn't realize this turned out so blurry. Anyway, as you can see, we climbed the lighthouse.

What a Dick.

Stamping things is an essential part of the Japanese culture. Like Koreans and writing on important monuments that they were there / love someone at that time.

Here's the demon-rock-throwing area.

Then we drove around trying to find the cannons, but found this remote place instead and walked a bit.

Then we left.

Along the way back, I was able to get a photo of the Husband-Wife rocks. I don't know what they do though. I think there are many others like them.

Then somehow we stumbled on a cool graveyard with some interesting graves while trying to find some kind of museum or something, but it turned out to just be -

this.

So the trip wasn't as exciting as I had hoped, but it had a lot of pretty views, so there's that.
